Huayhuash Full Circuit Alpine Route

Considered among the most beautiful trekking on the globe for its rugged geography, its renowned world mountaineering stories such as the film «Touching the Void», and the presence of the second highest mountain in Peru: Yerupaja (6,635 m / 21,768 ft).

On this trek, you will be able to see a range of different and extraordinary colors in each of the lagoons throughout the tour. On the same trek, you will be able to also see the majestic Condors (the world’s largest bird). On the other hand, during the trek, all the snowy peaks of the Cordillera Huayhuash will be appreciated from all sides.

During this unforgettable journey, you will cross high mountain passes with breathtaking panoramic views, surrounded by some of the most dramatic landscapes in the Andes.

TRAVEL PROGRAM

Day 1: Transfer from Huaraz to Matacancha (4,150 m / 13,615 ft ), trek Mitucocha Lake (4,270 m / 14,009 ft)

Trekking 5 hours

  • We will leave the city of Huaraz early in the morning. On this first day, we will travel for 4 hours by land until we reach Matacancha, our starting point to begin our trek. From there we will have views of the Rondoy snow-capped mountain and the Ninashanca. We will get ready to begin the hike up to the Cacananpunta pass, at (4,700 m / 15,419 ft). After a moment to enjoy the view and a moment of rest, we will descend to our first camp-Mitucocha.
  • In the afternoon, we will enjoy a hot coffee or coca tea while we observe the landscapes.

Day 2: Trek to Carhuacocha Lake via Carhuac Pass (4,630 m / 15,255 ft)

Trekking 6 hours

  • Today, we will depart from Mitucocha to Carhuacocha camp located at (4,138 m / 13,576 ft). On this day, we will cross the Carhuac pass at (4,630 / 15,255 ft). Another alternative is to do the alpine route that lasts 5 hours, in this route, we will have privileged views. In the Carhuacocha camp, we will enjoy the impressive views of the most important snow-capped mountains such as Jirishanca Grande (6,095 m / 19,996 ft ), Jirishanca Chico (5,446 m / 17,867 ft ), Yerupajá Grande (6,635 m / 21,768 ft ) Yerupaja Chico (6,121 m / 20,082 m), Siula Grande (6,344 m) and Siula Chico (5,680 m / 18,635 ft ).
  • In the afternoon, we will enjoy a hot coffee or coca tea while we observe the landscapes.

Day 3: Trek to Huayhuash Camp (4,350 m / 14,271 ft) via Siula Pass (4,800 m / 15,748 ft)

Trekking 7 hours

  • If you are a photographer, we advised you to wake up before dawn this morning to watch the sunrise over the Lake and Peaks from our campsite. Today, we will leave Carhuacocha towards the Huayhuash camp, located at an altitude of (4,350 m / 4,271 ft) . We will arrive at the Huayhuash camp in approximately 7 hours; crossing 7 beautiful snowy peaks and the beautiful Siula, Cangrajanca, and Quesillo Cocha lakes. We will ascend to the Siula Pass (4,800 m / 15,748 ft), where we will be able to admire the beauty of the Yerupajá, Siula Grande, and Trapecio (5,644 m / 18,517 ft) snow-capped mountains. Then, we will descend to our camp at Huayhuash.
  • In the afternoon, we will enjoy a hot coffee or coca tea while we observe the landscapes.
  • Overnight at the campsite.

Day 4: Trek to Cuyoc Pampa (4,500 m / 14,763 ft), via Trapecio Pass (5,020 m / 16,469 ft)

Trekking 6 hours

  • Today, we will cross our fourth step called Trapecio Pass. After breakfast, we will take a walk of around 2 hours until we ascend the Trapecio pass. From this point, we will have beautiful views of the Trapecio glacier and the majestic surrounding mountains such as Sarapo, Jurao and Carnicero. After reaching the highest point, we will descend to our Cuyoc Pampa camp. After the lunch, we will ascent for around 1 hour to appreciate the San Antonio viewpoint.
  • In the afternoon, we will enjoy a hot coffee or coca tea while we observe the landscapes.

Day 5: Trek to Huayllapa (3,520 m / 11,548 ft)

Trekking 5 hours

  • After breakfast, we will hike down until we reach the town of Huayllapa. Along the way we will be able to appreciate beautiful landscapes as we approach the town of Huayllapa. In the town we can stock up on provisions and rest for the next days of trekking.
  • In the afternoon, we will enjoy a hot coffee or coca tea while we observe the landscapes.
  • Overnight at the camp.

Day 6: Trek to Gashampampa (4,600 m / 15,091 ft ) via Tapush Pass (4,770 m / 15,649 ft )

Trekking 5 hours

  • After breakfast, we will leave the town of Huayllapa ascending towards the Tapush pass to finally reach the Gashpampampa camp. Along the way we will be able to appreciate beautiful landscapes and bird’s native to the area.
  • In the afternoon, we will enjoy a hot coffee or coca tea while we observe the landscapes.
  • Overnight at the camp.

Day 7: Trek to Jahuacocha lagoon (4,050 m / 13,287 ft ) via Yaucha Pass (4,800 m / 15,748 ft )

Trekking 5 hours

  • Today, we will walk for around 5 hours, heading to Lake Jahuacocha (4,050 m / 13,287 ft). After breakfast, we will ascend, and our walk will be a little hard because we will cross the Yaucha pass (4,800 m / 15,748 ft). In the afternoon we will arrive at the Jahuacocha lagoon, in this place we can observe the birds or go to see the Solterococha lagoon (4,120 m / 13,517 ft) and the Rasaccocha lagoon (4,417 m / 14,491 ft)
  • In the afternoon, we will enjoy a hot coffee or coca tea while we observe the landscapes.
  • Overnight at the camp.

Day 8: Trek to Pocpa town (3,460 m / 11,351 ft ) – Huaraz (3,052 m / 10,013 ft)

Trekking 5 hours

  • After breakfast, we will leave Jahuacocha lagoon towards the town of Pocpa. Along the way we will be able to appreciate the imposing snow-capped mountains of the Huayhuash mountain range that say see you soon with their impressive beauty.
  • Once we arrive at the town of Pocpa, a delicious lunch will be waiting for us. Finally, our mobility will be waiting for us to move to the city of Huaraz.
