Visiting Pastoruri is connecting with the true spirit of the high Andes and witnessing firsthand the reality our glaciers face today. It’s an experience that blends altitude, nature, and awareness. From the first kilometers, the immensity of Huascarán National Park becomes evident: high-Andean wetlands full of life, natural springs rising from the earth, a multicolored eye of water that shifts with the sun, and the towering Puya Raimondi forest, silent guardians of the mountains.
The approach to the glacier, along the well-known Climate Change Route, invites quiet reflection-every step reveals the story of glacial retreat and the resilience of an ecosystem that survives above 5,000 meters. Reaching Pastoruri is not just about seeing ice; it’s about standing before both the majesty and fragility of the Andes. It’s an experience that inspires respect, understanding, and a deeper commitment to conservation.
