During this trek, you will live a true experience immersed in nature, surrounded by a multitude of stunning snow-capped peaks such as Jirishanca Grande (6,095 m / 19,996 ft), Jirishanca Chico (5,446 m / 17,867 ft), Yerupajá Grande (6,635 m / 21,768 ft), Yerupajá Chico (6,121 m / 20,082 ft), Siula Grande (6,344 m / 20,814 ft), and Siula Chico (5,680 m / 18,635 ft).

These majestic mountains form a perfect contrast with the vibrant tones of the Mitucocha, Carhuacocha, Gangrajanca, Siulá, and Quesillococha lakes, complemented by the unique flora and fauna of the region.

Each day brings a new panoramic viewpoint, with dramatic glaciers, sweeping valleys, and ever-changing Andean light painting the landscape in unforgettable colors.
You will hike through remote high-altitude passes, experience authentic local culture, and enjoy peaceful campsites beneath star-filled skies.

TRAVEL PROGRAM

Day 1: Transfer from Huaraz to Matacancha (4,150 m / 13,615 ft ), trek Mitucocha Lake (4,270 m / 14,009 ft)

Trekking 6 hours

  • We will leave the city of Huaraz early in the morning. On this first day, we will travel for 4 hours by land until we reach Matacancha, our starting point to begin our trek. From there we will have views of the Rondoy snow-capped mountain and the Ninashanca. We will get ready to begin the hike up to the Cacananpunta pass, at (4,700 m / 15,419 ft ). After a moment to enjoy the view and a moment of rest, we will descend to our first camp-Mitucocha.
  • In the later afternoon, we will enjoy a hot coffee or coca tea while observing the landscapes.
  • Overnight at the campsite.

Day 2: Trek to Carhuacocha Lake via Carhuac Pass (4,630 m / 15,255 ft)

Trekking 6 hours

  • Today, we will depart from Mitucocha to Carhuacocha camp located at (4,138 m / 13,576 ft) . On this day, we will cross the Carhuac pass at (4,630 / 15,255 ft). Another alternative is to do the alpine route that lasts 5 hours, in this route, we will have privileged views. In the Carhuacocha camp, we will enjoy the impressive views of the most important snow-capped mountains such as Jirishanca Grande (6,095 m / 19,996 ft ), Jirishanca Chico (5,446 m / 17,867 ft ), Yerupajá Grande (6,635 m / 21,768 ft ) Yerupaja Chico (6,121 m / 20,082 m), Siula Grande (6,344 m) and Siula Chico (5,680 m / 18,635 ft ).

Day 3: Trek to Huayhuash Camp (4,350 m / 14,271 ft) via Siula Pass (4,800 m / 15,748 ft)

Trekking 7 hours

  • If you are a photographer, we advised you to wake up before dawn this morning to watch the sunrise over the Lake and Peaks from our campsite. Today, we will leave Carhuacocha towards the Huayhuash camp, located at an altitude of (4,350 m / 4,271 ft) . We will arrive at the Huayhuash camp in approximately 7 hours; crossing 7 beautiful snowy peaks and the beautiful Siula, Cangrajanca, and Quesillo Cocha lakes. We will ascend to the Siula Pass (4,800 m / 15,748 ft), where we will be able to admire the beauty of the Yerupajá, Siula Grande, and Trapecio (5,644 m / 18,517 ft) snow-capped mountains. Then, we will descend to our camp at Huayhuash.
  • In the later afternoon, we will enjoy a hot coffee or coca tea while observing the landscapes.

Day 4: Trek to Tupac Amaru  town (3,961 m / 12,995 ft) - Baños Hot Spring - Huánuco Pampa (3,700 m / 12,139 ft) - Huaraz

Trekking 3 hours

  • Today, we will descend toward the traditional village of Túpac Amaru, where our private transportation will be waiting to take us to our next destinations. From here, we will first head to the thermal baths of Baños, the perfect spot to refresh, relax, and recharge your energy while surrounded by peaceful Andean landscapes. After enjoying the hot springs, we will continue our journey to Huánuco Pampa, the most important archaeological complex in the entire Huánuco region and the former capital of the powerful Chinchaysuyo. Your expert guide will lead you through its impressive plazas, ceremonial areas, and ancient structures, bringing the legacy of the Inca Empire to life.
  • We will then drive toward Huaraz, taking in breathtaking Andean scenery along the way. As always with High Expeditions, every part of the journey is designed to offer comfort, culture, and a truly authentic exploration experience.
